Grant Information
Project Objectives
- Create a framework for classifying biosolids drying technologies, including both established and emerging technologies, using metrics that provide a structured methodology for technology comparison (e.g., energy consumption, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances [PFAS] fate, product quality, level of establishment/readiness).
- Provide a comprehensive summary of conventional and emerging biosolids drying technologies, including information about:
-- Capital cost, size, and space requirements (footprint), and operation and maintenance costs.
-- Energy inputs and usage.
-- Compatibility with upstream and downstream processes.
-- Safety.
-- End products and their quality and marketability.
- Compare emerging drying technologies to established technologies, accounting for regional variation, with respect to the parameters listed above. Include the pros and cons of each technology.
